Garage Floors
Which finish should I choose for my garage?
Flake is the most popular garage finish, and quartz adds texture and grip. We will recommend the one that suits your garage.
Why does a garage floor coating peel?
Peeling usually comes from poor surface preparation or moisture in the concrete slab. Grinding the concrete gives a coating something to grip.
Can hot tires damage a garage floor coating?
Yes. Hot tires can lift a coating that did not bond well to the concrete, which is why preparation matters.
Can you coat concrete with cracks and stains?
Cracks are repaired before coating, and grinding prepares the surface for the new system. The condition of the concrete determines how much of an existing stain may remain visible.
Should I choose garage floor tiles or a coating?
Tiles leave seams between pieces, while a coating is one continuous surface bonded to your concrete. We install coatings, and we do not install floor tiles.
Do you repair and refinish garage floors?
Yes. We repair cracks, remove peeling coatings, grind off old paint and install a new system. See garage floor repair and refinishing.
Finishes and Colors
What is the difference between flake and quartz?
Flake uses larger decorative chips for a speckled look. Quartz uses fine colored grains for a denser, more textured finish that can offer greater slip resistance.
What flake colors are available?
We offer 15 standard blends: Autumn Brown, Cabin Fever, Coyote, Creekbed, Domino, Feather Gray, Glacier, Gravel, Nightfall, Orbit, Outback, Safari, Shoreline, Stargazer and Tidal Wave. See them in the showroom.
Which floor color hides dust and tire marks?
Mid-tone flake colors often hide dust and tire marks better than very light or very dark colors.
What solid colors can I choose?
Solid epoxy comes in a range of grays, neutrals, blues, reds, greens and safety colors. See the solid color swatches.
Can I use more than one color on a floor?
Yes. A flake blend already mixes several colors in one floor, and a solid color floor can be paired with a different color on the wall base or in marked lines.
Which finish is easiest to keep clean?
All of our epoxy finishes are easy to clean. Smoother finishes wipe down most easily, and textured finishes add grip.
Polyaspartic and Topcoats
What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?
Epoxy builds the body of the floor. Polyaspartic is a clear protective topcoat that many floors use over epoxy.
What does a polyaspartic topcoat do?
A polyaspartic topcoat is a clear, UV-stable finish applied over a coating system. It helps protect the finish from UV-related discoloration. See polyaspartic flooring.
Can epoxy turn yellow over time?
Standard epoxy can amber with UV exposure. A UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat is one option to consider when choosing a system.
Can a polyaspartic coating go over a flake floor?
Yes. A clear polyaspartic topcoat is commonly installed over flake to seal and protect it.
Commercial Floors
Do you install floors for businesses?
Yes. We install epoxy, quartz and urethane cement floors for restaurants, shops, warehouses and offices. See commercial epoxy flooring.
What floor works for a restaurant kitchen?
Commercial kitchens need a seamless, easy-to-clean surface, often with a cove base that curves up the wall so water has no seam to collect in. See restaurant flooring.
What is urethane cement?
A heavy-duty flooring system used in commercial kitchens and wet areas. See urethane cement flooring.
Can warehouse floors have marked safety lines?
Yes. We can include safety lines as part of warehouse flooring work. See warehouse flooring.
Do you coat showroom and retail floors?
Yes. Flake, quartz and solid-color systems are options for showrooms and retail spaces. See showroom and retail flooring.
Do you work with general contractors?
Yes. We bid commercial and residential flooring projects. Call us or leave your name and number to get started. See the contractor page.
Preparation and Installation
What is epoxy flooring?
Epoxy flooring is a coating system applied to concrete that forms one continuous, easy-to-clean surface. It can be finished in flake, quartz or solid color looks.
Do you grind the concrete before coating?
Yes. We grind the concrete and repair cracks before applying a coating, so the new floor has a sound surface to bond to.
Can you coat concrete that already has paint or epoxy on it?
Old paint must be ground off before coating. A firmly bonded coating can be prepared and recoated, and a peeling one has to come off first.
What should I do with my belongings during installation?
Keep vehicles and belongings out of the work area until we tell you the floor is ready.
Do I need approval to coat a condo or townhome garage?
Your condo association or HOA may have rules about flooring work, so check with management before scheduling installation.
