Our Epoxy Floor Installation Process

How a JC Elite floor goes from bare concrete to a finished coating, in the order we work, with photos from real garage and commercial jobs.

How We Install an Epoxy Floor

Every floor follows the same order, and each step sets up the next.

1. Grind the concrete

We grind the slab to remove dirt, oils and old coatings. That opens the surface so the new floor can bond.

2. Repair cracks and damage

Cracks, chips and pits are filled and leveled before any coating goes down, since the finish cannot hide them.

3. Prime when the concrete needs it

Soft or porous concrete gets a primer so the coating does not soak in.

4. Base coat and flake

The epoxy goes down and your flake blend is broadcast into it while it is still wet, until the color is full.

5. Scrape and vacuum

Once the base has cured, loose flakes are scraped away and the floor is vacuumed clean.

6. Seal with a clear topcoat

The topcoat locks the flakes in and leaves a smooth finish that wipes clean. Polyaspartic is available over suitable systems.

Epoxy Installation Questions

Answers to the most common questions about how we install a floor.

How do you prepare the concrete?

We grind the slab to remove dirt, oils and old coatings. That opens the surface so the new floor can bond.

Do you repair cracks before coating?

Yes. Cracks, chips and pits are filled and leveled before any coating goes down, since the finish cannot hide them.

What goes on top of the flake?

A clear topcoat locks the flakes in and leaves a smooth finish that wipes clean. Polyaspartic is available over suitable systems.

Can you coat over old paint or a peeling coating?

Old paint and failing coatings are ground off first, so the new system bonds to prepared concrete. See garage floor repair and refinishing.

Does the process change for quartz or metallic floors?

The preparation is the same. The coating step is different: quartz is broadcast into the base coat, and metallic pigments are worked into the coat to make the pattern. See quartz epoxy flooring and metallic epoxy flooring.
